The programme does not have any specific requirements for the recognition of prior learning.
The procedure for recognition at AMU is governed by Articles 89 and 90 of the Act on Higher Education Institutions No. 111/1998 Coll., as amended, and by the AMU Attendance and Examination Regulations (Articles 8, 14, 18).
Qualification requirements and regulations
It is assumed that candidates are continuing from the Bachelor?s programme in Dance Theory. In certain cases, it is possible to admit a candidate who has completed a Bachelor?s programme in a different field focused on dance or a different arts programme (theatre studies, music) or social science field, demonstrates knowledge on the level of the Bachelor?s programme in Dance Theory and demonstrates an academic interest in Dance Theory (e.g. a Bachelor?s thesis elaborating a topic in dance). It is necessary to have the prerequisites for scientific work, critical thinking ability and skill in conceiving a scholarly text.
Regulations: The Czech education system is governed by the Act on Higher Education Institutions, as amended (Act No. 111/1998 Coll.), and by the internal regulations of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.
Field of study characterization
The programme?s objective is to deepen the knowledge acquired at the Bachelor?s level in historical and systematic dance theory, how it is used in independent research and its application in dance criticism, popularisation, organisational activity, etc. The student acquires an overview of the methodologies of dance research, their use in independent research and how to present such research in a high-quality manner at the international level. Through participation in interdisciplinary projects, the student is also introduced to the issues of dance production and management.

A graduate is able to perform independent scholarly research in the area of dance theory and to present it in a high-quality manner at the international level. He or she is also familiar with issues of dance production and management thanks to participation in interdisciplinary projects.
Occupational profiles of graduates with examples
A graduate of the continuing Master?s programme in the field of Dance Theory is able to perform further independent research in the area of historical or systematic dance theory and to present it in a high-quality manner at the international level. He or she can apply these skills in further academic or research activity, as well as in practical work at institutions of associated fields as an assistant, dramaturge, producer or manager. Graduates also often apply their skills in current affairs commentary and in edifying activities.

Graduates of the Master?s programme in Dance Theory can continue in a doctoral programme.
Examination regulations, assessment and grading
Studies are assessed by credits and examinations stipulated by study plans. The student is informed of these through the information system. The student registers for examinations using the information system, and is entitled to a second and third attempt to pass an examination. If neither of these attempts proves successful, the Dean may in exceptional cases permit a fourth attempt (administered by a commission). It is not permitted to repeat an examination for the main subjects or to repeat written examinations. The credit is an ungraded form of assessment of studies. It is allocated upon fulfilment of requirements stipulated for individual subjects and is recorded in the information system with the word ?Credited? (Z). An examination is a graded form of assessment of studies, which tests knowledge and level of creativity in the relevant subject. In the main subjects, examinations are administered by a commission. An examination may be practical, written, oral, or involve a combination of these methods. Examinations are graded on the scale ?A, B, C, D, E, F?.
Graduation requirements
The student fulfils the requirements set by the study plan. The student passes the final state examination. The Master?s examination includes a test of systematic dance theory and the history of dance and ballet, as well as a defence of the written diploma work.
