Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning
The programme does not have any specific requirements for the recognition of prior learning.
The procedure for recognition at AMU is governed by Articles 89 and 90 of the Act on Higher Education Institutions No. 111/1998 Coll., as amended, and by the AMU Attendance and Examination Regulations (Articles 8, 14, 18).
Qualification requirements and regulations
Required qualifications: A completed secondary or completed secondary vocational education.
Regulations: The Czech education system is governed by the Act on Higher Education Institutions, as amended (Act No. 111/1998 Coll.), and by the internal regulations of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.
Field of study characterization
The programme in production at AMU`s theatre faculty prepares students for professional work in operating various types of theatres, not only on the level of knowledge, but also in the sense of a creative approach to this profession, abilities of initiating artistic activity, its reflection and constructive opponency.
The study plan of the Bachelor`s programme offers lectures and (mostly) seminars in the theory and history of theatre, economics, law, management and marketing. Students acquire knowledge in fields such as the establishment and operation of theatrical institutions and projects, fundraising, promotion, theory of communication, promotion and PR, cultural policy, etc., and master organisational, communicative and other skills. Great emphasis is placed on the methods and possibilities for practical application of this knowledge in the context of running an artistic operation, of course mainly a theatre.
Key learning outcomes
A graduate of the Bachelor`s programme has expert knowledge especially in the areas of law, management, marketing, economics, as well as in the history and theory of theatre. He/she has been familiarised in detail with those specifics of the above-mentioned fields which concern the running of a theatrical operation. He/she is oriented in all aspects of the activities of various types of theatrical organisations common in the Czech Republic and their existing network.
On the basis of an artistic assignment, a graduate is capable of independently planning and directing all of the non-artistic processes necessary for creating and operating a theatrical production in the context of a theatrical institution as well as in that of an independent ad hoc project. He/she independently ensures the plan and verifies the fulfilment of activities and tasks, budget and accounting, marketing strategy and its realisation, contractual treatment of all rights and obligations, etc.
Occupational profiles of graduates with examples
A graduate in the field of production is able to perform most theatrical professions in the administrative, economic and operational segments up to the level of middle management in large repertory theatres and up to the level of top management in small theatrical organisations.
Graduates most frequently find employment not only in theatres but also in various cultural institutions as heads of production teams, managers of theatre troupes or projects, heads of business or contact (marketing) departments or as fundraisers, but also as initiators, managers and administrators of independent theatrical productions (producers).
Access to further studies
The Bachelor`s programme is continued by the Master`s programme in production, which is the most suitable form of acquiring further education in this area. An analogous programme is the Master`s programme in theatre management at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno. If entering the labour market directly, it is possible to recommend deepening a graduate`s acquired knowledge e.g. in the areas of economics, law or marketing according to the selected professional application, for example through lifelong learning courses offered by relevant universities.
Examination regulations, assessment and grading
Studies are assessed by credits and examinations stipulated by study plans. The student is informed of these through the information system.
The student registers for examinations using the information system, and is entitled to a second and third attempt to pass an examination. If neither of these attempts proves successful, the Dean may in exceptional cases permit a fourth attempt (administered by a commission). It is not permitted to repeat an examination for the main subjects.
The credit is an ungraded form of assessment of studies. It is allocated upon fulfilment of requirements stipulated for individual subjects and is recorded in the information system with the word „Credited“ (Z). An examination is a graded form of assessment of studies, which tests knowledge and level of creativity in the relevant subject. An examination may be practical, written, oral, or involve a combination of these methods. Examinations are graded on the scale „A, B, C, D, E, F“.
Graduation requirements
The student fulfils the requirements corresponding to the study plan.
The student passes the final state examination.
The goal of the Bachelor`s examination is to verify the expert and practical knowledge which the student acquired during his/her studies. In the written Bachelor`s thesis, the student must demonstrate in particular the ability to clearly define an assigned problem within the scope of the elaborated topic, to describe it and to analyse possible solutions. In the oral part of the examination, the commission will verify the student`s expert and theoretical knowledge in the areas of economics, law, management and history of theatre. The student must display the ability to apply his/her knowledge to practical situations and problems, which he/she then addresses independently. A condition of applying for the Bachelor`s examination is successful completion of the three-year Bachelor`s programme and passage of all prescribed examinations.
The Bachelor`s examination consists of the following parts:
1.the defence of the Bachelor`s diploma thesis;
2.an examination on the theory of the field of production (economics, law, management and marketing);
- an examination on the history and theory of theatre.
