General information about admission process
Successful completion of an entrance examination, which consists of a theoretical part and a talent part. The talent examination has the greatest weight in the admissions process, and it allows the following prerequisites to be assessed: demonstration of dramatic talent, ability to compose and visualise a story based on submitted authored works.
Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning
The programme does not have any specific requirements for the recognition of prior learning.
The procedure for recognition at AMU is governed by Articles 89 and 90 of the Act on Higher Education Institutions No. 111/1998 Coll., as amended, and by the AMU Attendance and Examination Regulations (Articles 8, 14, 18).
Qualification requirements and regulations
Required qualifications: A completed secondary or a completed secondary vocational education; exceptionally, it is also possible to admit candidates without a completed secondary, a completed secondary vocational or higher vocational education at a conservatory.
Regulations: The Czech education system is governed by the Act on Higher Education Institutions, as amended (Act No. 111/1998 Coll.), and by the internal regulations of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.
Field of study characterization
The Bachelor?s programme in Scriptwriting and Dramaturgy is focused on the creation and analysis of a film script. The instruction proceeds from simple script etudes to the adaptation of literary material to scripts for a medium-length film. During the Bachelor?s programme, students learn the basic techniques necessary for scriptwriting practice. In addition, they master the fundamentals of thinking about film from the point of view of its structure and genre category, and the basics of dramatic theory and dramaturgical consideration. The instruction is divided into a theoretical part focused on the history of cinematography and the history of literature. In the practical part, students analyse scripts and film works, and in scriptwriting seminars they proceed from elementary etudes all the way to the graduate script of a feature film. During the course of the programme, students have the opportunity to work in workshops under creative personalities and to encounter diverse conceptions and cinematographic approaches.
Key learning outcomes
The Bachelor?s programme graduate is able to create independently the subject matter of a film and a film synopsis, and to present them. He/she is able to adapt literary material for film and to create and analyse independently an original structured dramatic text. He/she has an overview of the history of film, of film and television genres and of contemporary cinematographic trends; he/she has solid insight into the other film professions and is capable of being part of a creative team.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading
Studies are assessed by credits and examinations stipulated by study plans. The student is informed of these through the information system.
The student registers for examinations using the information system, and is entitled to a second and third attempt to pass an examination. If neither of these attempts proves successful, the Dean may in exceptional cases permit a fourth attempt (administered by a commission). It is not permitted to repeat an examination for the main subjects or to repeat written examinations.
The credit is an ungraded form of assessment of studies. It is allocated upon fulfilment of requirements stipulated for individual subjects and is recorded in the information system with the word ?Credited? (Z). An examination is a graded form of assessment of studies, which tests knowledge and level of creativity in the relevant subject. In the main subjects, examinations are administered by a commission. An examination may be practical, written, oral, or involve a combination of these methods. Examinations are graded on the scale ?A, B, C, D, E, F?.
