Dance therapy used and further developed Laban's system of movement analysis, which became an integral part of dance-movement therapy. TPT works with the movement categories of Laban's system. In the practical part of the class, the following objectives are pursued:

  1. awareness of the movement's guidance, its trajectory, its quality, the space it occupies
  2. guidance to expand the stereotypical repertoire of movement that each individual has - expanding the range of movement
  3. enabling one to understand the meaning of movement, the intuitive approach and the feeling of movement - leading to their systematic description and sorting of experience
  4. the contribution of kinesthetic self-knowledge.

Improvisation and observation of movement is an integral part of the class, students are led to an awareness of the connection of body, mind, emotions shared in the group and their outcome is the ability to do movement analysis based on LAP. Students go through a creative and self-learning process that they can use in their work (dance educators, choreographers, directors, actors, dramaturgs, etc.).

Learning outcomes

In the Laban Movement Analysis (LAP), Dance Movement Therapy (TPT) classes, students are introduced to Bartenieff Foundamentals, the basic elements of LAP and how it works within the structure of dance movement therapy. Each class is focused on a theoretical and practical part. Students are introduced to the categories Body, Effort elements (Active Crystallisation in Flow, Weight, Time, Space). Classes also focus on working with Shape Elements - moving from one's own space to the outer space, awareness of personal movement space - the kinesphere, working with Action Drives (movement paths according to Laban).

Prerequisites and other requirements

Neither theoretical nor practical knowledge of dance techniques is a requirement to study LAP, TPT. The prerequisite is an interest in the subject, the ability to analyze movement on the basis of theoretical and practical training in classes

Evaluation methods and criteria

The ability to analyze movement based on LAP and the application of knowledge in the chosen specialty is assessed.

Note

Teaching is spread over two semesters. It is also designed with this in mind, and therefore, in order to complete the entire content of the seminars, it is necessary to attend LAP during both the winter and summer semesters so that the students understand the system in its complexity.
