Bases of technical drawing focusing on the technology and construction of the puppet types.

Practical lectures of construction of different types of puppets, objects or masks.

Basic information about light and sound design

Block workshops focused on information and practical experience with different materials and technologies such as casting in various materials, printing techniques, sewing, soldering, implementation of electronics, etc.

Objectives of the course:

The course supports students in realizing their artistic vision and in addressing technical and material challenges related to their final artistic project.

To familiarize students with various theatre approaches and alternative technical solutions, and to encourage their creative use in the realisation of their own projects.

To familiarize students with existing technologies for individual puppet types.

To familiarize students with contemporary media and their position in art and theatre.

Specific objectives are built up on the content of Technology of Puppets 1 and 2. Students will get a detailed overview about technical solutions for their work, such as the elements of light design, sound design and video design and technologies. Familiarisation with the basic technological procedures for working with the widest range of classical and modern materials and their use, focusing on puppet types and technology.

Mode of study: Blocks of seminars, lectures and workshops with an expert in the field.

Výsledky učení

In the field of knowledge students:

• know the basics of technical drawings and concepts of different puppets technologies;
• have basic orientation in technical and creative use of light and sound in theatre;
• have a good understanding of issues related to the complex use of technology in theatre;
• are conscious of relations and dependencies between theoretical and practical aspects of studies and use that knowledge in further artistic development;
• know and are able to practically apply in the creative work the possibilities of various puppetry techniques, materials, and technological processes used in puppetry, object theatre, mask theatre, and other unconventional means of artistic expression and live theatre.

In the field of skills students:

• are able to independently develop and formulate their artistic concepts and scripts and decide how to implement them within artistic projects using their own imagination, intuition, and emotions;
• are able to independently choose the technological procedures and used puppetry techniques, have a good command of them, and can improve and develop them within the framework of individual work;
• are capable of independent, individual work with information, creative approaches, and their analysis;
• are competent in formulating critical arguments and generating internal motivation.

In the field of social competencies students:

• are able to listen to co-workers and use their remarks and cooperate with them, while realizing a common aim, which is theatrical performance;
• are capable of self-evaluation and implementation of critical comments in the development of their work;
• are able to present their own project in an approachable way.

Hodnoticí metody a kritéria

The scope and quality of the completed assignment are evaluated, which also includes a certain amount of individual work by the student. Completion of the course requires attendance with a maximum of three absences per semester.
