The course contains a detailed analysis of dance steps of the main folklore areas - the method and sequence of teaching the steps, their variations and combinations. The sequence of teaching dance steps, step variations for each stage of folk dance teaching at vocational schools. The method of working with folk dance material and creating exercises for different folklore areas, the approach to teaching folk dances.

The aim of the study is the development of methodological thinking, the ability to analyze the elements of folklore areas, understanding their possible combinations, mastering the procedure of teaching dance steps and dances, mastering the procedure of teaching and independent conducting of Folk Dance lessons. The study deepens the professional understanding of the context in folk dance, its ethnographic inclusion, including within family and annual ceremonies.

The course is closely related to the Folk Dance Pedagogical Seminar and prepares technically and theoretically for mastering folk dance and orientation in ethnographic areas. The course is a six-semester course. In three years of study, the student will gradually acquire and deepen his/her knowledge of all the basic elements, variations and dances of the different regions of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia:

Thematic areas:

Basic steps of Moravian and Silesian folk dance, their specifics and regional variants. Dances of the type „Starodávný“, „Sedlácké“ and dances with a strong connection to the musical accompaniment, male dance expression – „Odzemek“ a „Verbuňk“. Preparing the creation of a dance lesson focusing on a specific folklore area.

In the summer semester, the teaching focuses on creating simple links from the basic elements covered in the winter semester. The aim is to develop teaching skills and creativity when working with children and beginners. Dance steps begin to be combined into links that the students create independently. Smaller units of related and interrelated steps are combined into logical links so that they are easy for students to master.

In the space, the students continue walking in different floor plans, in pairs and in groups. Sousedská (Neighbor) steps in a pair in body filming and turning. Polka steps in forward, backward, in body filming and turning, in pairs holding hands. A triple stomp and a triple shake, a two-step in body filming and turning individually, and a hop step in turning individually right and left. Mazurka helding a double cross with rotation and exchange of places. Two-time and three-time „kolečkové“ (wheel) steps from the dance „Do kolečka a Do kola“ („Do wheela and Do wheel“).

We introduce students to the basic dance steps, as well as their possible variants, as well as the method and rules of combining steps into combination.

  3. Dances of different regions in Moravia
  4. Work with motif and improvisation in folk dance
  5. Partner work in folk dance, simple lifts
  6. Dance steps in 180° rotation in couple dance
  7. More complex links and variants of dances of folklore regions of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia

On the basis of the acquired knowledge, students create dance variations for the initial teaching of folk dances, as well as their regional variations, which they assign, evaluate and analyze.

An integral part of the teaching is the search and preparation of suitable music material and cooperation with the accompanist, especially when working with material of a particular folklore area, a careful approach is required, and the preparation of a written seminar paper, which is a preparation for the examination lesson (1-2 standard pages).

On the basis of observing at dance conservatories, ZUŠ, debates arise, during which students communicate their knowledge to each other, which broadens their professional insight necessary for their future teaching practice.

Evaluation methods and criteria

Oral and practical examination of practical and theoretical knowledge, defence of written work in preparation for the examination lesson (3-5 standard pages), professional description of technical exercises, theoretical and movement preparation for teaching the selected dance, written lessons prepared for a certain stage of teaching, its partial demonstration and didactic commentary of individual elements and links.

Other requirements: 80% attendance, activity in teaching, creation of a portfolio based on completed hospitalizations, workshops and festivals attended
