Contents

Development of the ability to formulate and conceive a professional text with a focus on the reflection of one's own artistic work in different contexts. Ability to search for relevant sources and to verbalize and formulate in text a variety of practical and theoretical questions related to one’s own personal research interests. Achieving relevant skills and knowledge in the field of writing a Master's thesis, the rules of footnoting and bibliography, the skills of literature search and various ways of using literature (citation, reference, polemic). The student is obliged to choose a theme and tutor of Master's theses.

The aim of the course is theoretical and practical preparation of students for writing their Master's thesis.

The output of this seminar is a collection of short texts and essays related to the students’ research interests. These texts can serve as a basis for their Master’s thesis.

Learning outcomes

In the field of knowledge students:

are able to take innovative approaches to performance making through the analysis and evaluation of theory and practice;

are able to cultivate an understanding of conceptual knowledge through their own performance practice and independent research;

are familiar with multiple theoretical approaches in a research project, and demonstrates an understanding of how to link them to their own artistic practice;

will undertake advanced research projects that address significant areas of theory and/or practice in theatre and performance

In the field of skills students:

will get acquainted with various methodological approaches to writing theoretical work.

are able to realize independent, individual work, which can be characterized by: collecting, analyzing and interpreting information and as well as formulating critical argumentation, possessing internal motivation and organizing their individual work;

In the field of social competencies students:

are able to present their own creative work verbally and in written form in front of an audience, ability to discuss chosen topic and sharing of the creative methods and written texts.

Evaluation methods and criteria

Students earn credits based on the evaluation of the scope and quality of their assigned tasks, participation and activity in class, and individual work. At the end of the semester, students will be able to present the initial text sections of their future Master's thesis.
