Creative Dossier is a set of attachments that present audiovisual projects in development in a comprehensive manner.

The purpose of the subject is to teach the students to prepare a project they can start working on following the completion of their study.

Over the course of the three semesters that this subject takes, the students will develop and create a Creative Dossier to demonstrate their readiness for embarking on a professional path.

The Creative Dossier includes a logline (two to three sentences); a synopsis (one page); a treatment describing the plot of the film and illustrating the traits of the principal characters (the student need not be the exclusive author, 10 pages maximum); a visual mood board (five pages maximum); a director’s explication of the creative plan that will describe the visual aspect through a commentary on the mood board as well as mentioning the sound and musical dramaturgy of the future audiovisual work (one to two pages); and a producer’s explication focusing on an explanation of the overall production strategy with an overview of the steps to be taken after the completion of studies (one to two pages). The content of the Creative Dossier will be detailed and/or expanded during the seminar depending on the selected genre and development strategy.

The creation of a creative package for an audiovisual work shall take the form of either:

a feature film

a TV miniseries

a short film

a documentary film

a TV series pilot

In the second semester, students will focus on the form of their work. To that end, they will invite their current and/or future collaborators and schoolmates from other fields to consult the mood board and both explications as mentioned above, and any additional attachments ‘tailor made’ for the specific project. Beyond the scope of the standard involvement of a mentor, the school will facilitate one-time consultations with a selected industry professional.

At the end of the third year’s winter semester, the students shall submit the second part of the Creative Dossier, which consists of the visual mood board (five pages maximum), a director’s explication of the creative plan that will describe the visual aspect through a commentary on the mood board as well as mentioning the sound and musical dramaturgy of the future audiovisual work (one to two pages). In addition, each student shall submit the minutes of the consultation with the industry professional of their choice (one page maximum).

Learning outcomes

By the end of the second semester, students will be able to:

Develop the formal and aesthetic concept

Articulate a coherent creative vision,

Evaluation methods and criteria

The teacher shall verbally assess the artistic relevance and, in connection to it, the level of detail and relevance of the explication in terms of the envisaged formal means as reflected in the mood board and the director’s explication of the creative plan. The students shall also interpret their meeting with the industry expert of their choice.

Students are expected to show an active approach to the development of the work and to attend classes regularly with at least a 70% rate of attendance.

Note

Students are encouraged to actively seek collaborating colleagues to take part in the development.

For literary development of the Creative Dossier, as well as in subsequent stages of development and finalization of the same, we recommend actively seeking collaboration with students from the Department of Screenwriting and Dramaturgy.
