Directing Tutorial 3 allows students to apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired during their first year of study in two ways: through fictional and team-based project, and through individual documentary project.

During the winter semester, the Directing Tutorial 3 focuses on

the implementation of the collective exercise „Atelier.“ This project is preceded by preparatory work in the Studio and is developed and executed by a collective of 2nd year students with all roles in the crew decided beforehand.

Preparation and implementation of an individual exercise “Documentary” that spans over 2 semesters and is based on original student's idea.

A student selects the work on the Atelier exercise or the Documentary project.

The Atelier exercise is based on the pre-set script, which student adapts, and is shot in the pre-defined set built in film studio. The Documentary project is based on the original student's idea.

Students develop an idea and initial story outline for the Short Fiction exercise, which they will be working on in summer semester.

Learning outcomes

During the semester focused on film production, students will gain hands-on experience with all the stages leading up to the actual shoot and with directing on set.

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

Documentary project - learn how to develop an idea, conclude the research, and write the treatment and script of the documentary project.

Atelier exercise - learn how to write a script for the existing film (studio) set and prepare it for shooting within the conditions given by the pre-defined set built in a film studio. Students learn how to collaborate and are also involved in the core of other departments collaborating on a film production.
