The course is taught in a combined form of contact and non-contact teaching in a ratio of about 1:4, i.e. 80 hours of distance learning,

20 hours of face-to-face contact per semester.

The course contains and provides knowledge of the basic steps of folk dances of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. The basic folk dances from the core areas are introduced. Detailed analysis of basic dance steps - the method and sequence of teaching the steps, their variations and possible combinations. Method of working with folk dance material and creating exercises, approach to teaching folk dances.

The aim of the study is an introduction to methodical thinking, the ability to analyze elements and possible errors in performance. Mastering the procedure of teaching dance steps and dances, learning the procedure of teaching and conducting an independent Folk Dance lesson.

The course and prepares technically and theoretically to master folk dance and orientation in ethnographic areas. The course is a six-semester course. In the three years of study, the student will gradually acquire and deepen his/her knowledge of all the basic elements, variations and dances of different regions of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia:

Thematic areas:

The basic steps of Bohemian folk dance in place, in advancing from place, in turning and in performing in pairs. Simple partner work in folk dance for pair dancing. Dances with a tight connection to the music and dances with a loose connection to the music. Children's dance games and dances for children.

The basic steps - squats, big squats, doublesuspension , „kolíbka“, small sunas, small swings, transferring weight from foot to foot, „Trojhran“, double polka (heel-toe), cross step (step and jump)

  1. Teaching the simplest dance steps of a folk dance in progress from the place.
  2. Steps of 2/4 rhythm: walk, polka step, hop step, smooth obkročák, hop obkročák, double-step and double-step in rotation, steps of South Bohemian koleček (wheels), „koloběžka“ („scooter“).
  3. Dance steps 3/4 meter, sousedská (neighborhood), three-stomp, divided three-step, mazurka (three steps, two steps, one step).
  4. Dance steps on the place, řezanka, heel-toe steps, holubce (dove).
  5. Discussed dance steps performed in turning and turning, teaching the principle of turning in folk dance.
  6. Pair work, simple dance variations of Czech folk dances.
  7. „Furiant“ type dances, double dances, „Do kolečka“(„Do wheel“) type dances.
  8. Preparation for dances with a variable beat „mateník“

On the basis of the acquired knowledge, students create dance variations for the initial teaching of folk dances, as well as their regional variations, which they assign, evaluate and analyze.

Finding and preparing suitable music material and working with an accompanist is an integral part of the learning process, especially when working with material from a particular folklore area, a careful approach is required.

Observations at dance conservatories and ZUŠs result in written reflections, during which students communicate their findings to each other, expanding their professional insight necessary for their future teaching practice.

Evaluation methods and criteria

Practical test of knowledge of at least two dances taught. Assignment of warm-up for folk dance lesson.

Other requirements: 75% attendance, activity in class, creation of a portfolio based on hospitalizations, workshops and festivals attended.

Note

Teaching combines monological, applied, interactive teaching methods, encourages self-study within the framework of non-contact learning and student's critical thinking. The student is encouraged to create his/her own portfolio based on the acquisition of his/her own experience and skills.

On the basis of the acquired knowledge, students create dance variations for the initial teaching of folk dances, as well as their regional variations, which they assign, evaluate and analyse.

An integral part of the teaching is finding and preparing suitable sheet music and working with an accompanist, especially when working with material from a particular folklore area, a careful approach is required.

  2. Dance steps of 2/4 meter, walk, gallop, change step, stepping and double stepping
  3. Dance steps 3/4 meter, mazurka, neighborhood, triple-dup
  4. Dance steps on the spot, cut, heel-toe steps, pigeon steps
  5. Dance steps discussed in execution in spinning and turning, teaching the principle of turning in folk dance
  6. Pair work, simple dance variations of Bohemian folk dances
  7. Furiant type dances, double dances, dances of the type „In the round“
  8. Preparation for dances with changing beat „matenik“
  9. Teaching to work with rhythm and coordination in folk dance
  10. Simple folk dances of Bohemia

On the basis of visits to dance conservatories, ZUŠ and folklore festivals, debates arise, during which students share their knowledge with each other, expanding their professional insight necessary for their future teaching practice.
