Dive into the essentials of film production with a focus on practical knowledge, tips and tricks.

Student will be able to manage production workflow, communication and processes in a short movie in a role of a Production manager.

Student will be able to assess critical situations and resolve them and they will also learn to delegate the work between their PAs.

Syllabus

1. Introduction to Production

Introduction to exercises, explaining PM's and PA's role. Film role hierarchy, crew roles and responsibilities. Basics of communication

1. Communication

Basic guidelines to how properly communicate within the crew as well as with FI Production office. Do's and don'ts of communication.

1. Equipment

Examples of equipment, going over their size, importance, what are they for, what to look out for.

1. Script breakdown

Introduction to script breakdown – how to do it, what is it good for.

1. Locations

Where to look for them, best practices, what does it cost, what to take care of in the first and last place.

1. Casting & actors

How to properly do casting, how to take care of actors, communication with them.

1. Transportation

How to figure out logistics for transportation, best practices, what not to do.

1. Contracts & paperwork

Explanation of different types of contracts. Essential paperwork walk-through (call sheets, transpo sheets, contact lists etc.)

1. Catering & on-set rules and guidelines

Importance of catering on set, how to deal with it, where to find the best one, practical examples. On-set etiquette, rules, and guidelines - when to talk, who to talk to, how to

delegate on set, going over responsibilities again.

1. Consultations (01/11–25/11)

During the production period of exercises will be given the option to students to come to consult their project at any time (after setting a meeting in advance).

Výsledky učení

After the course concludes (Spring term) students should be able to create a simple budget, shooting plan and production reports.

Hodnoticí metody a kritéria

Compulsory attendance, maximum of 1 missing class, homework and evaluation of students work on practical exercises of APP and CDM students.
